A trauma-informed approach to movement is at the heart of Kali’s teachings. Movement, she believes, should be both mindful and consensual. It can be easy to push past the body’s warnings in pursuit of a more advanced posture, but in this practice, the focus is on strengthening the subtle body, fostering a strong dialogue with the body’s communication mechanisms, and creating pathways for gentle release — all while minimizing the risk of injury.
Kali obtained her yoga teacher training from the Tucson Sol Center, completing a program based on the teachings of Rama Jyoti Vernon, a pioneering figure in American yoga. Rama was one of the first yoga teachers in the United States and was among B.K.S. Iyengar's early students in North America. Yoga experts at Tucson Sol Center trained directly with Rama and model their yoga teacher certification program on their intimate experience with her. Rama's approach emphasized the integration of asana with breath and mindfulness, fostering a deep connection between body and mind. Her teachings continue to inspire Kali's classes, where the focus is on honoring the body's wisdom and cultivating a compassionate, heart-centered practice.
